Microchipping FAQ

Pets are members of our family. They count on us for all their needs and also to protect them. As traumatizing as it is for you to lose your pet, it is equally traumatizing for them to be separated from the family they love. Getting your pet back is the most important thing, and that is where microchipping comes in. If you are looking for a veterinarian in Beaumont to microchip your pet, our team at Oak Valley Animal Hospital is ready to assist you.

Why Microchip Your Pet?

If your pet gets lost it may be hard to reunite with them. Over 6 million pets find their way to the humane society every year. Not all of them are strays. Some of them are family pets without any way to reconnect with their family. If the lost pets had microchips, the owners could be easily identified and contacted. Heartache would be avoided and unnecessary pet euthanizations would be eliminated.

What Is a Microchip?

A microchip is a tiny transponder that contains a registration number. The chip itself does not have any personal information stored on it. The name of the pet owner and their personal information is listed in a registry, linked to the pet’s registration number. The microchip can be read with a handheld reader that all animal control officers and animal shelters have.

How Is a Microchip Implanted?

Microchips are very small, and the insertion process is easy. They are inserted under the skin of your pet, most often in the area between shoulder blades. The procedure is quickly performed, and no more painful than having your ears pierced. The vast majority of pets experience no after-effects.
